Wander the Halls of The National Portrait Gallery

Looking for something to do indoors on a crazy hot summer day? Visit the recently reopened National Portrait Gallery! Now that the Smithsonian’s are open again, it’s time to get out and explore them. This iconic museum features paintings, photographs, and sculptures of some of America’s most important changemakers, all organized into unique exhibits to wander.

Perhaps the most famous is the America’s Presidents gallery, filled with a portrait of each American president. It’s the largest gallery of its kind outside of The White House itself. Sports lovers enjoy the Champions exhibit featuring sports legends like Wilma Rudolph, Jim Brown, and Mia Hamm. Arts and entertainment lovers may prefer the Bravo! exhibit featuring musicians like Louis Armstrong and actresses like Lena Horne. This is just the beginning of what you’ll find, so pencil in a full afternoon to soak up the wonder of each intricately designed ode to these iconic members of our country’s past.

Timed-entry passes are required as they reopen, so make sure you do plan slightly ahead as they book up in advance. You can simply go online, reserve your entry time, and checkout complimentary as the museums are free. Your pass will also include the Smithsonian American Art Museum if you’d like to visit both in one day!
